Fall-ing in love with Autumn Weddings

Welcome to Autumn

Anyone who’s followed me for a while will know that Autumn is my very favourite season. Any excuse to stay at home, wear cosy clothes, eat comfort foods and countdown to Christmas. I put it down to being a winter baby. My birthday is New Years Eve and I was born in the wilds of Canada. Indeed, Bramley folklore often recollects that it was a cool minus 30 degrees when I was brought home from the hospital. Chilly! But, I digress, back to my other favourite thing – weddings.  And this season, we’re massively looking forward to the Autumn wedding of Gabrielle and John.

For this gorgeous couple, we’ll first dress Holborn’s Grays Inn Chapel, an exciting new venue for Iris and Blue.  And for the party, we’re back to St Stephen’s in Hampstead, a cherished favourite.  The colour palette is bold, bright orange and pinks, think Indian summer rather than traditional Autumn.  Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us all and reflect the vibrant colour theme.  Get ready for the pics in late October.

Why Choose an Autumn Wedding?

Well, there’s just something undeniably magical about Autumn weddings. The season exudes warmth and romance. What else could you want for your special day?  Whilst the natural landscape provides a beautiful setting for photos, the cooler temperatures make outdoor ceremonies and receptions more comfortable than the (occasional) searing summer heatwave.  And the colours, oh my.  Autumn colours don’t have to be brash pumpkin orange and witches hat black but rather indulge yourself in more classy palettes.  For example, deep berry and peach is a marriage made in heaven and the abundance of foliage in soft, golden romantic tones is a dream to work with.

One of my favourite Autumn arrangements from Mel and Omer’s wedding last year.

Seasonal Flowers for an Autumn Wedding

  1. Dahlias  Every year we fall head over heels in love with these heartbreakers.  Their full, layered blooms, the variety of shape and silhouettes as well as the rainbow of hues make these a firm Autumn wedding fave.  Cafe au Lait can be tricky to work with but it is our go to variety for size, impact and wow factor.
  2. Roses Roses bloom year-round, but certain varieties shine particularly bright in autumn. Deep red, burgundy, and burnt orange roses blend beautifully with other autumn flowers and greenery to create lush, layered arrangements.
  3. Amaranthus A real showstopper for Autumn weddings.   This cascading beauty adds drama and movement to bouquets and centerpieces. Available in shades of burgundy, green, and even gold, amaranthus is perfect for adding a touch of luxury and richness to Autumn floral designs.
  4. Calla Lilies These elegant blooms are having a moment right now.  Known for their sleek, elegant shape, and they come in a variety of colors suitable for Autumn. They work beautifully in modern, minimalist designs or as an accent flower in a more elaborate arrangements.
  5. Hellebores Often called the “winter rose,” hellebores bloom in the cooler months, making them a perfect addition to autumn wedding florals. Their muted shades of purples, greens, and pinks give bouquets a subtle, vintage charm

A gorgeous example of a muted Autumn arrangement, the foliage as beautiful as the florals.
